Our Representational Systems are the way we unconsciously process information.
This is the way we learn and take in information and is often completely unconscious (until we become aware of it).
Did you find learning easy at school? Or did you struggle to retain information?
Have you ever had the experience of frustration when trying to explain to your secretary, law clerk or junior solicitor how to do something and feeling like you're not understanding one another?
You may have even experienced it at home with your spouse or family.
Knowing our own Preferred Representation System as well as those we work closely with, can make a tremendous difference to how we easily communicate with one another.
You'll understand how to approach your own learning in the most effective way and you'll be able to communicate to the people you work with how you want things done with absolute ease.
There are 4 different Representational Systems.
We can be a combination of them but will always have a dominant one.
They are:
Visual - Learn best by watching how something is done
They may struggle with verbal instructions
The are often careful about their personal appearance as well as their immediate environment as everything must look just right.
Auditory - Learn best when *told* how to do something and can often easily repeat step by step instructions.
They may feel the need to hear feedback about themselves.
They are often sensitive to tone of voice, sounds, noise and may tap their feet or fingers rhythmically.
Kinaesthetic - Learn best when they are able to be hands-on.
They respond well to touch and physical rewards.
They are very empathetic towards others and will ask how you feel. They also tend to dress for comfort.
Auditory Digital - Talk to themselves to work things out either in their head or out loud (talking to themselves).
They often display the characteristics of the other 3 Representational Systems.
Are usually logical and analytical rather than emotional.
